Cultivated in the volcanic shadow of Mount Batur. Heavy dark chocolate, molasses, and warm toasted cedar.

Our Bali Blue Single Origin is an extraordinary micro-lot grown in the volcanic loam of the Kintamani highlands of Bali, Indonesia. Grown by smallholder family farmers organized into traditional Subak Abian agricultural collectives, these shade-grown trees flourish alongside citrus and shade trees at extreme altitudes up to 5,000 feet. Processed using the island's signature wet-hulling technique, it brews into a dense, syrupy cup with deep baker’s dark chocolate, brown sugar sweetness, and toasted cedar wood with exceptionally heavy body and virtually zero acid bite.

ORIGIN & REGION: Kintamani Highlands, Mount Batur Volcano, Bali, Indonesia

ALTITUDE & SOIL: 1,200 – 1,600 MASL · Rich Volcanic Ash Loam

PROCESSING: Traditional Wet-Hulled (Giling Basah) & Sun-Dried on Raised Beds

TASTING NOTES: Dark Baker's Chocolate · Black Cherry · Toasted Cedar · Molasses

ACIDITY LEVEL: Naturally Ultra-Low Acid (Extremely Gentle on Digestion)

BEST EXTRACTION: French Press · AeroPress · Cold Brew Concentrate · Dark Moka Pot

✨ TRY IT: Volcanic Dark Cedar French Press

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz rich French-press brewed Bali Blue Coffee (coarse grind, 4-minute steep)
  • 1 tsp raw dark demerara sugar or molasses
  • 1 oz warm frothed oat milk or coconut cream
  • Pinch of nutmeg on top

Method: Brew coarsely ground Bali Blue in an immersion French press at 200°F. Stir demerara sugar into your mug, pour hot coffee over, and crown with warm oat milk and nutmeg. The earthy cedar and chocolate notes marry seamlessly with the cream.

Low-Acid Favorite: Because Indonesian wet-hulling naturally breaks down astringent chlorogenic acids during fermentation, Bali Blue is our #1 recommended single origin for coffee lovers who suffer from heartburn or acid sensitivity.

Common Questions & Brew Notes

How are your single-origin coffees roasted and sourced?

Every single-origin lot is sourced from verified cooperative farms and roasted to order in small batches. Bali Blue is grown in the volcanic highlands of Kintamani, Bali, where rich volcanic soil and high elevation produce beans with deep, dark chocolate and earthy spice notes and naturally low acidity. Each harvest is carefully processed using the wet-hull method traditional to Indonesian coffees, resulting in a distinctively full-bodied, smooth cup.

How soon after roasting will my coffee arrive?

We never ship coffee that has sat on a warehouse shelf. Your Bali Blue is roasted right after you place your order and dispatched within 24 to 48 hours so you receive it at peak degassing and aroma — days 4 through 21 post-roast is when this coffee truly shines. We recommend opening the bag, giving it a rest of a day or two after arrival, and then brewing for the fullest, most vibrant cup possible.

What roast level is Bali Blue and what brew methods suit it best?

Bali Blue is offered as a medium-dark to dark roast, which complements its naturally bold, earthy character and low acidity beautifully. It excels in a French press, where the full-immersion brewing method highlights its rich body and chocolate depth. It also performs exceptionally well as espresso, producing a thick, syrupy shot with a naturally sweet finish. For drip brewing, use a slightly coarser grind to keep the earthy spice notes balanced and smooth.

Why is it called Bali Blue?

The name comes from the blue-green hue that the beans develop during the wet-hull processing method used in Bali — a technique unique to Indonesian coffee production. After the parchment is removed while the beans still have high moisture content, the beans take on a distinctive bluish-green color before they are sun-dried. It's a hallmark of authentically processed Balinese coffee and a sign of the careful, traditional craftsmanship that goes into every lot we source.
