Charcoal-roasted in porcelain pots in Kyoto, Japan. Nutty, toasty, and naturally low in caffeine and tannins.
Hojicha offers an entirely different, comforting experience of Japanese green tea. Instead of being steamed and left green, whole Bancha and Sencha tea leaves and stems are slowly roasted over charcoal at high temperatures. This unique roasting caramelizes the leaf sugars, turning the leaves a rich mahogany brown. It yields a fragrant, toasty amber brew with notes of roasted barley, sweet toasted hazelnut, and dark caramel with virtually zero bitterness, near-zero astringency, and very low caffeine.
